Seeking Volunteer Game Reviewers (All Genders) en (translated)
Player agency: how policy constrains it, how the industry shapes it, how narrative design realizes it.
USK is recruiting players aged 18 or over who are familiar with different game genres and platforms to serve as volunteer Spielesichter*innen supporting the preparation of statutory age ratings. Those selected must thoroughly review submitted games, document their gameplay, technical features, story, and child- and youth-protection factors, write a test report, then present it to independent child-protection experts and answer their questions. The work requires being able to attend in person in Berlin and values reliability, confidentiality, communication skills, and German and English proficiency; each assignment is coordinated according to the number of cases, the available time, and the individual’s willingness, while the age rating itself is still determined through a formal review process.

Sakigarasu's Take
Players are taking part in rating preparation, bringing hands-on play experience into the assessment process so that ratings do not rely on abstract rules alone. The work also requires confidentiality; what players provide is observation and reporting, while the final age decision remains with the formal review body.
