Frog in the China Journey Announces Service Shutdown After 8 Years; Account Data Will Be Erased (translated)
Player agency: how policy constrains it, how the industry shapes it, how narrative design realizes it.
After operating for eight years, Frog in the China Journey is expected to shut down on December 8, 2026, because its IP licensing partnership is coming to an end. When the service closes, account and character data will also be deleted. The end of this journey means that the photos, progress, and everyday memories players accumulated over the years can no longer be preserved or taken with them after the service shuts down.
Sakigarasu's Take
The photos, character data, and everyday memories players invested in ultimately still depend on whether the licensing relationship can continue. This is not about whether players played for long enough; it is about the fact that once the service ends, their collections and progress have no lasting form they can take with them.
